UCI Para Cycling World Championship
The Bordeaux 2007 UCI Para Cycling World Championship gathered around 400 athletes from 42 different countries around the world, from 19th to 27th of August, 2007. The Americas Region was represented by seven countries: Argentina, Brazil, Canada , Colombia, Domenican Republic, United States and Venezuela.
The race events competed were as follows: Locomotion Handicap (LC1 to LC4), Cycling for Blind or Poorly Seeing Cyclist (B1 to B3), Cyclists with a Cerebral motor disability (CP1 to CP4) and Handbike Cyclists (HB A to HB C). United States finished with a total of 12 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 6 bronze) and was placed in 7th for the medal tally ranking. Venezuela also came home with a bronze medal. Great Britain was the medal tally champion, taking home 13 gold medals.
Even without conquering any medals, athletes who competed at the UCI World Championship were able to accumulate points for their National Paralympic Committee (NPC). The points from each competition are added together and with the points the NPC may qualify for slots to Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
