IWAS Games Start in Taipei
From 9th to 19th September, Taipei is the host of the International Wheelchair Association of Sports (IWAS) World Wheelchair & Amputees Games 2007 – Taipei.
The Opening Ceremony took place yesterday in Taiwan with 826 athletes from around 43 countries. Moreover, the event was attended by several Taipei Government officials, Dr. Linda Chen Lee-Chou, President of the Chinese Taipei Paralympic Committee (CTPC) and Mr. Paul DePace, President of IWAS.
Athletes will be competing in Athletics, Table Tennis, Swimming, Badminton, Shooting, Fencing, Powerlifting and Archery. From 10th to 14th, classification will be available for those athletes which have not been through an international classification.
The competition starts today with Shooting and Table Tennis, followed by Archery and Athletics starting-off tomorrow. The full competition program for each sport is available in the official website of the competition.
Besides the Games, an Eastern/Western Asia Countries Meeting and the IWAS General Assembly are planned for the 16th and 17th respectively. Americas Region is represented by Barbados, Brazil, Canada, Mexico and United States.
