Medals Unveiled for Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games
Last week the medals for the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games were presented during a press conference at the Beijing Olympic Media Center.
Leading officials of the Beijing 2008 Organizing Committee for the Games of XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG) and China Disabled Persons’ Federation, representative of athletes with a disability and of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Medal Sponor were present at the occasion.
The medals have a jade disc with different colors for each one: white for the gold medal, gray-white for the silver and green for the bronze, and in the center, the emblem of the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. On the reverse side is the is the emblem of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), the name of the event and "Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games" in Chinese, English and Braille. The gold medal is plated with no less than six grams of pure gold.
The IPC has given its stamp of approval to the design of these medals for Paralympic Games of 2008. BOCOG and the IPC approved the final scheme on September 20 and October 11, 2007, respectively.
