Results from Loterias Caixa International Meeting in Brazil
Not Lucas Prado, nor José Armando. The shinning star during the duel on the second day of competition of the Loterias Caixa International Meeting was Felipe Gomes. The Brazilian won the 100m class T11, for blinds, with the time of 11s49. “It’s good to finish the year like this. I won from the bests of the world and this just give me confidence to prepare myself for Beijing”, said Felipe. Lucas Prado, who holds the world record for the event with 11s26, and the Angolan José Armando, who had the previous world record, finished with silver and bronzer respectively. “I am very happy for Felipe. I wanted to win, but didn’t. I am coming back from an injury and it was not possible to win. But Felipe will represent Brazil very well in the podium”, said Lucas.
On 1500m, classes T12/T13 for athletes with visual impairment, Odair Santos lost for the Moroccan Abdelillah Mame. The Spanish Abel Ávila, main opponent of Odair in this event, finished 4th behind the Kenyan Henry Kirwa. Terezinha Guilhermina won easy the 100m T11 event.
On the field events, Lithuanian athlete Ramune Adomaitiene established a new world Record for Javelin class F37/38, throwing 33m78. On discus, the Bulgarian Stela Eneva also brought down her own previous world record with 33m 99 class F53/56/58.
Saturday, 15th, world Records at the swimming pool of the Maria Lenk Aquatic Park. On 50m freestyle S10, André Brasil and Benoit Huot repeated the duel of the last Parapan Games in Rio de Janeiro, past August. Same stage, same result: once more Andre Brasil was on the highest spot on the podium. He also brought down his own previous world record, finishing with 23s95. The previous marc was 24s07. On 100m freestyle, another victory over the Canadian athlete, as well as a new world record, 52s22. “I am very happy with these results, I started my year well, with good results, I improved my time in the Parapan and now I finish the year with this great result. For us is great to have competitions with this level here in Brazil. My plans now are rest and start my preparation for Beijing”, said André.
In the other great challenge in the competition, the Brazilian Daniel Dias and the Spanish Sebastian Rodrigues swam 100m freestyle S5. Double lost for Spain. Daniel not only finished the event with 1m13s18, took the gold medal, and established the new world record which was from Sebastian (1m13s39). “I have no words to express how happy I am with this victory. I have been training a lot, and I am very tired, but extremely happy with my medal. And even more with the record. To be back to Maria Lenk and win again is wonderful”, quoted Daniel.
Right on the first event of the day, the 200m medley S5, Daniel finished with 2m58s24. The record for this event is from him, 2m45s90, achieved on the previous weekend, in the US Open in Maryland. “I just arrived from USA, I improved a lot my time on the 200m medley, but the new mark still haven’t been homologated by the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). As soon as that is done, this will be the new mark”, explained the athlete.
